ICTSI Forest Hills Championships Results
The golf course was the clear winner here; no one in the field finished under par. 2nd day leader Ferdie Aunzo had a rough day and fell into a tie for ninth. Jay Bayron and Marvin Dumandan battled tooth and nail all day. The decisive moment came when Bayron birdied 17 to nose ahead by 1 stroke. Dumandan had a birdie putt on 18 to force of playoff, but he missed the tough downhill, right-to-lefter to hand Bayron the win. Next stop of the Philippine Golf Tour is the formidable South Course at Valley Golf Club. Hope to see you there! Chipping over the bunker on the 18th green was a common sight at the ICTSI Forest Hills Championships 15-year old Miguel Tabuena impressed everyone with solid play... Read More
ICTSI Forest Hills Championship
I’ve taken a more active role in this leg of the Philippine Golf Tour. Instead of being just a spectator I’ve taken the plunge and volunteered to help in the event as a marshall. It’s been an enlightening experience and reinforced my knowledge and application of the rules. I spent most of the two days with Bobby Chico, an established rulesman and golf director of my home club Eagle Ridge working the more difficult back nine. It’s been a really fun experience thus far. The pros have been very easy to work with and have all been really friendly. Although I’ve played the course many times in the past, this is the first time that I’ve seen Forest Hills in real... Ferdie Aunzo Breaks Out in Bulacan – Wins the ICTSI Royal Northwoods Championships
Ferdie Aunzo broke out as a professional at Royal Northwoods Golf and Country Club in quaintly named Coral-na-Bato, San Rafael Bulacan when he won the ICTSI Royal Northwoods Championships by one stroke over a hard charging Rey Pagunsan. Aunzo started the final round with a five stroke lead, but the veteran Pagunsan who started 5-strokes back of Aunzo, scorched the course with a closing 65. Aunzo admited being surprised when he found out that his lead was down to one. Still he managed his game and the course and had just enough left at the end to secure his first win as a professional. Aunzo was a member of the national team and was touted as the next amateur hope but decided cut short his stint... Read More
When was the last time you REALLY played golf?
When was the last time you played golf? And I mean really played golf, with all the rules of the game in play? Almost every game I’m in, every tournament I play in has mulligans, gimmes or some other concession to the speed of play. We might be playing it on a golf course with golf clubs and balls, but it doesn’t quite pass for golf. There is no pressure when you can give up on a putt because you know that it’ll be conceded. There is no honor in taking a mulligan. Since I am relatively new to the game of golf (having only played these last 15-years), I grew in the game expecting mulligans and concessions when I played. Imagine my absolute shock the first time I entered a serious... Read More
ICTSI Sherwood Hills Classic – Salvador Wins!
Elmer Salvador put in another strong performance on a very tough Sherwood Hills course. He backed up yesterday’s 68 with a 3-under par 69 and held off Benjie Magada who posted a 69 of his own. Salvador fulfilled the promise he showed in previous Philippine Golf Tour events when he seemed to come undone after taking the early lead. This day he sealed the deal with a masterful performance taking his first PGT win. The tough course spread the field. Ferdie Aunzo crafted a 69 of his own to finish alone in 3rd. Arnold Villacencio was alone in 4th and Miko Alejandro, the Low Amateur finished a stroke behind in 5th and veteran Ruben Sasutil finshied another stroke behind in 6th on his own. Ray... Read More
ICTSI Sherwood Hills Classic – Day 2 Results
Elmer Salvador Elmer Salvador shot a 4-under par 68 and recorded the best round of the day on another tough day at Sherwood Hills. He was the only man under 70 and is the only man under par after 36-holes of play. He struck the ball well and stayed out of the omnipresent trouble that lines the Sherwood Hills Golf Club. Benjie Magada shot a 2-over 74 and sits alone in second place 6 strokes back of Salvador. A shot further back and 7 back of the leader are veterans Carito Villaroman, Christopher de los Santos and amateur Miko Alejandro. Ferdie Aunzo is by himself in 6th and Arnold Villavicencio, Jun Bernis, Solomon Gines and first day leader Orland Sumcad who fell back after a 77 today. The... Read More
Long hitting Orlan Sumcad shares lead at ICTSI Sherwood Hills Classic
Orland Sumcad Day 1 of the ICTSI Sherwood Hills Classic is in the books and long hitting Orlan Sumcad is tied for the lead with amateur Johnel Ababa and Benjie Magada after opening day 70s. They lead by one from three other golfers; Solomon Gines, veteran Ruben Sasutil and dark horse Elmer Salvador. The fact that just these six sit under par are indications of the course conditions at Sherwood Hills. Jhonnel Ababa The course is playing it’s full length for the professionals and with the wind up and the constant threat of rain, conditions were difficult today. It was just as easy to make double as par and birdies were few and far between. Any gains are squandered with bogies or worse on... Read More
Fernando, Ardina, Garcia win 2009 Philippine Amateur
Mark Fernando and Dottie Ardina won the men’s and ladies division titles in the Philippine Amateur Golf Championships Sunday in Binangonan, Rizal. Fernando, a member of Tommy Manotoc’s Calatagan stable, reached the finals with a 5 & 4 win over local bet Dino Villanueva and overcame a bogie start with a string of birdies from the third to the fifth hole for a 5 and 4 thrashing of Korean national Jeung Hun-wang. With this win, Fernando gets an automatic berth in the six-man national pool from which the four members of the RP team seeing action in the Putra and Nomura Cups will be selected. Ardina, on a break from a US golf scholarship from ICTSI, also enjoyed a relatively easy victory... Read More

Are You Ready, Partner?
The following is rlv’s account of his experience at the Mizuno Scramble Grand Finals which concluded recently at Splendido Golf Club. Take it away, rlv! This is long overdue, but I feel I have to write about it, not only to thank the guys at Mizuno, especially Pao and Bap, but also to share the fun, excitement and experience I had during the tournament. But first, let us give credit where credit is due. And that is to Mizuno Philippines for staging this great tournament. I am not sure if this is the 2nd or 3rd year of the event, but this year’s version is a huge success! Pao and Bap (and their staff) did a masterful job in running the 12 legs as well as the Grand Finals. How I wish that... Read More
Angelo Que Defends at ICTSI Mt. Malarayat Championships
Congratulations to Angelo Que for defending his ICTSI Mt. Malarayat Championship at the beautiful Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club. It was a far cry from last year when he shot 20-under par and won by 3. This year he was determined to make it exciting for all concerned. Richard Sinfuego and Wisut Artjunawat (again!) pushed Que to the limit. Artjunawat mounted a very stiff charge and got to 12-under with two to play but finished bogie-bogie to fall out of contention. Sinfuego led from the second day and threatened to win wire to wire, but for an errant drive which found the water on the 72nd hole and led to a double bogie. Angelo didn’t make it easy on himself with the win in sight;... Read More

Philippine Golf Tour 2009
When: April 21-24, 2009 Location: Dye Course, Eagle Ridge Golf & Country Club click here to know more The Philippine Golf Tour at Eagle Ridge came to a conclusion yesterday under rainy skies. Play was suspended on a couple of occasions because of torrential rain and lightning but the golfing gods relented in the end and allowed play to conclude. The Andy Dye Course gave the pros all they could handle as no one finished under par. Marvelous Marvin Dumandan came from behind 2nd day leaders Tony Lascuna, Jay Bayron and Joenard Rates to steal the ICTSI Eagle Ridge Invitational with a 1-under par 71 on a day when the leaders cracked under the severe scrutiny of the penal Dye Course. Jay Bayron... Read More
