The Hardest Golf Course in the Philippines?
The eighteenth green with the clubhouse in the background Mention Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club to most people and the first golf course that comes to mind is the fearsome Dye Course. “You play the Dye and you will DIE!” goes the saying. But to most of the members of Eagle Ridge, the Dye isn’t the most difficult course on the property; that honor falls on the course designed by Nick Faldo. Course and slope ratings from the blue tees are 74.4 and 144 making this one golf course you do not trifle with. At a staggering 7,443 yards from the tips and just slightly more reasonable at 6,897 yards from the blue tees, the Faldo is, in a word, relentless. There is precious little time to catch... Read More
Custom made running shoes to increase comfort and decrease the chance of injury
In another sporting life, I was a runner. Not a casual, around the block runner but a serious 80k a week, sub-20 5k fanatic. I picked up running in school first as a school boy training for soccer and never stopped. I took my running kit everywhere I went and ran wherever my travels took me. The zenith of my running achievements was my participation in the first Manila International Marathon in 1980 when Bill Rogers and a handful of Kenyans showed us all how it was done. I managed to finish in less than 4 hours accomplishing the goal I set for myself. Osteoarthritis from injuries to my right ankle brought this passion to a screaming halt one day while training for a 5k race. The pain was so severe... Read More
The Crocs Amazing Feel Good Race
As a photojournalist I go to my share of press conferences but none as unique and as much fun as the Crocs Amazing Feel Good Race. Now I must confess that I’m a big fan of Crocs’ ultra-comfortable line of footwear. Since developing osteoarthritis in my right ankle I use one pair of Crocs or another in my daily activities almost exclusively. They’re that comfortable. As you might imagine I was blown away by the fact that their new Duet clog and flipflop were touted as their most comfortable line yet. I just had to have a pair. It could only do my ailing ankle good. When I read the email with the details of the race, I was quite concerned. Any activity that involves racing has... Read More
Tour Insider – 2011 ICTSI Royal Northwoods Championships
Juvic Pagunsan was the class of the field at Royal Northwoods Juvic Pagunsan proved once again that when he plays his best, there are few Pinoygolfers that can match him on the golf course. Juvic finished with rounds of 66-70-69 for a 3-day total of -11; two strokes clear of runner-up Jay Bayron in a masterful display. That total could have been even lower if he managed to avoid bogies on 13, 15 (both par 5′s) and 16 on his last round. I felt he took unnecessary chances going for the par 5′s in two but hey, what do I know? He still won by two, right? Jay Bayron studies his putt on number 2 Jay Bayron proved that his breakout performance on the Philippine Golf Tour last year was no... Read More
