Golf Courses – Best of 2010
We’re privileged to play as many different golf courses as we do to bring this section to all of you. This is the time to reflect and look back at the beautiful places we’ve been.
Canlubang Golf and Country Club

If anything we’d written needed vindication of any sort, we got that when Asian Golf Monthly named Canlubang Golf and Country Club’s North Course as the best golf course in the Philippines. While we concur, we shouldn’t forget the breathtaking South Course. More dramatic and flamboyant the South Course is the Yin to the North Course’s Yang. No matter how you cut it, these are two of the very best the country has to offer.

Splendido Taal Golf Club

Normally, we ask for 3-4 days to properly photograph a golf course. We did this year’s shoot in just one day. Such is the beauty of the Greg Norman designed Splendido Taal Golf and Country Club. This sunrise shot was the aperitif to a wonder filled day on the golf course.
Cebu Country Club
Serving marshal duty on the Philippine Golf Tour provides many opportunities to photograph our beautiful golf courses and it was a treat to finally be able to shoot the premiere golf course in the Queen City of the South, Cebu Country Club. To my mind, the best golf course in the entire Visayas island chain. This was also the only golf course that I photographed that I didn’t get to play; an oversight that I intend to correct in 2011.
Caliraya Springs Golf Club
It saddens us to hear of a golf course that becomes unusable due to neglect or lack of funds. Imagine our joy to learn that Caliraya Springs had come back from the brink this year. This is a beautiful layout by Arnold Palmer that deserves all the TLC it can get. It is a unique site for golf as it sits on one of our country’s most important water sheds. Bird life is abundant and the golf sublime. This is a course that we’re sure to revisit in 2011.
Club Intramuros

Photographing Club Intramuros was a real treat. It was an opportunity to reconnect with our country’s rich history; walking along the tops of the walls to get unique perspectives of what is arguably one of the most unique locations for golf in the country. Its accessibility makes it one of the favorite haunts of Pinoygolfer.com members.
Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club
Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club is easily one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country. It’s superbly manicured fairways are a unique counterpoint to the majestic mountains that frame it in the background. It remains one of our favorite places to golf.
CDC Golf and Country Club (Mimosa) – Mountain View Course

The Mountain View Course has the distinction of being the only course in the country to host one of the greatest golfers of our generation, one Tiger Woods. It a magnificent golf course that straddles the worlds of the old courses and new; it is of modern all weather construction, yet boasts century old acacia trees, usually found only on the older more mature layouts. With a bit more care and maintenance, this could be one of the best golf courses in the country.
Summit Point Golf and Country Club

Few golf courses have as unique a concept as Summit Point Golf and Country Club in Lipa, Batangas. Patterned after a course called the Tour 18 in Texas, Summit Point’s holes draw the inspiration for their design from famous golf courses from all around the world; Royal Melbourne, Oakmont, Pebble Beach, St. Andrews and Agusta National are all represented here. Good to see the course weathering hard times as it has. This is a beautiful golf course.

I’ve played some of these beautiful golf courses (Mimosa, Cebu Country Club, Canlubang & Club Intramuros ) and it’s really a great pleasure looking at these pictures. My friends and I are planning to have a golf tour when we go back to visit the mother country next year. Thanks for this post.
Thanks, Amie! Give us a shout when you get back. Maybe we can tee it up then.
