Odyssey White Ice 2-Ball – The best gets better
In golf, there are few companies that have been as successful as Odyssey. Having started business in 1991 with a unique putter made entirely of a soft, lightweight polymer material called stronomic which later became the face insert material used in their more conventional looking line of putters, Odyssey Golf grew so quickly it became the number 1 putter in golf a scant 6 years after its inception. But the company would not really hit their stride until 2001 when they introduced the now iconic 2-Ball putter to golfers eager to improve their performance on the greens. The 2-Ball putter created a whole new category of putters; the high moment of inertia (high MOI) mallet which enabled a whole... Read More
Splendido Taal Golf and Country Club – The latest golfing gem on the Tagaytay Ridge
Sunrise over Taal Lake Splendido Taal Golf and Country Club was Johnny-come-lately and was completed at the tail end of the Philippine golf boom of the 90’s. Already well and truly hooked on the game, I remember traversing the Tagaytay ridge looking for the site hoping to get an advance look at the latest golf course to set up there to no avail. Turns out I was looking in the wrong places. In what was once a ravine, the developers moved some 13 million cubic meters of earth to create a suitable site for the Greg Norman signature golf course. Golf in the Extreme
Go down the list of what are now commonly called extreme sports and you won’t find golf listed among them. But a couple of fanatical golfers have found a way to elevate the normally staid game of golf to a level that can only be described as extreme when they played 144-holes of golf in one day. Tired but triumphant, Escaler and Soong celebrate after 12 hours on the course That’s right; 144-holes of golf in a day. Well, 12-hours to be more precise. Whatever, that’s a month’s worth of golf to many and these guys did it in a day. Wellington “Willy” Soong and Noel Escaler aren’t new to this. In fact in consecutive years from 2005 to 2007, they played 5, 6 and then 7 rounds of golf... Read More
